A carpet is a textile floor covering typically consisting of an upper layer of pile attached to a backing. The pile was traditionally made from wool, but since the 20th century, synthetic fibers such as polypropylene, nylon or polyester are often used, as these fibers are less expensive than wool.
Over ninety percent of all of the carpet made today is made up of synthetic fiber. The rest is natural fiber, most commonly wool. The most common synthetic fibers are usually made up of one of three materials: nylon, polypropylene or polyester. Polypropylene is the preferred material for outdoor and basement carpets/mats/rugs as it is resistant to fading, staining, mold, mildew and moisture damage.
Carpet yarns are fibers which are made by spinning, twisting, texturing, wrapping, and knitting yarn. These yarns are made by assembling textile fibers in a form suitable for knitting or weaving. Our polypropylene carpet yarns come with a variety of colours, textures and deniers and can fulfill most of the polypropylene requirements from carpet and mat manufacturers.
